An incredible lightning strike captured on cam!
An incredible lightning strike was captured up-close, just yards away!
A police officer dash cam in Gautier, Miss. captured an incredible lightning strike during a storm.
The video shows Gautier police officer Mark Rodriguez driving toward a storm when around seven seconds into the video lightning strikes something on the right side of the road. You can see the lightning bolt turn into “beads” as it decays.
Though Rodriguez was not driving through a particularly hazardous storm, the bolt reminds us that lightning is a true threat no matter how far away you are, or how strong the storm appears to be.
Radar imagery from Tuesday shows light to moderate rain passing over Gautier around the time of the strike. There were no storm reports submitted in the area on that day. While driving along a highway in Mississippi last week, Gautier police officer Mark Rodriguez caught an amazing view of a lightning strike that landed just feet away from his vehicle.
Fortunately, a car is a safe place to be during a lightning storm, and Rodriguez's dash cam caught incident on camera.
The camera was not recording audio but it matters little given the dramatic and colorful blast by lightning that likely left the officer startled.
The rain had not yet started in the region of the Tchoutacabouffa River when the stunning strike occurred.
