Muslim schoolboy arrested after taking homemade clock to school
A 14 year old Muslim boy became a sensation on social media and got an invitation to the White House after word spread that he had been placed in handcuffs and suspended for coming to class with a homemade clock that school officials thought resembled a bomb. The teenager has been arrested and could face charges of making a hoax bomb after his teachers thought his homemade clock looked like an explosive device.
Ahmed Mohamed, 14, from Irving, Texas, who spends his time fixing his go kart and playing with electronics, brought his invention to school to show them his talent.
But instead of receiving the praise he expected, the boy was told by his engineering teacher not to show anyone else. The student said he enjoys electronics and works on many inventions.

He kept the clock inside his school bag in English class, but the teacher complained when the alarm beeped in the middle of a lesson so Ahmed brought his invention up to show her.
“She was like, it looks like a bomb,” he said. "I told her, ‘It doesn’t look like a bomb to me.’”
Later that day, he was taken out of his class by the principal and questioned by five police officers before being taken to a juvenile detention centre where he had his fingerprints taken. Mohamed, from the ninth grade, was suspended from school.

Police officers accused him of making a "movie bomb" before he was led away.
Irving Police Chief Larry Boyd said the clock looked "suspicious in nature," but there was no evidence the boy meant to cause alarm at school. Boyd considers the case closed.
In a matter of hours, the clock made Ahmed a star on social media, with the #IStandWithAhmed tweeted more than 1 million times.
