Six days of darkness in December 2014??
Will there be six days of darkness this December 2014? Although an alleged NASA report has claimed this week that solar winds will result in the U.S. being cast into darkness for a significant amount of time, it appears that these allegations are nothing but a hoax. The Epoch Times reveals that rumors of the Earth being cast into shadow are completely false, though the cited article has received over 600K Facebook views and “likes”, with some people even said to be preparing themselves for a week of darkness this 2014.
A ‘Satirical news site’ Huzlers.com has been spreading the fake story through an article which stated that NASA had made a new report public that said the world would be almost fully dark for nearly a week.
Readers should not believe everything they see, even if information is “confirmed.” The story on Huzlers titled “Nasa Confirms Earth Will Experience 6 Days of Total Darkness in December 2014!” claims that an incoming solar storm is to blame, causing "dust and space debris to become plentiful and thus block 90% sunlight” sounds interesting and possibly authentic initially has been revealed to be completely untrue.
NASA chief Charles Bolden reportedly warned the public to stay calm. Some users even linked to a (real) video of Bolden talking about “emergency preparedness” – an official-sounding phrase that apparently bypasses common sense to hit the big button marked ‘PANIC’ in the brain.
The video was actually recorded to encourage US families to think about what they would do in the event of an earthquake or hurricane – natural disasters that are a real enough threat in America.
It appears that this particular NASA hoax came about as a response to a previous fake report about a three-day blackout, which mentioned darkness and potential lack of electricity. This originated back in 2012, but became such a phenomenon in the media that some clever minds at Huzlers decided to reincarnate it.
