Man assumed dead for 6 days, what happened before his autopsy was so CREEPY!
He was declared dead by doctor after checking pulse and sent to morgue. But something frightening happened right before his autopsy!
A 50-year-old homeless Indian man was declared dead by a doctor at Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital in Mumbai, India, shocked the hospital staff when he woke up on an autopsy table just before his autopsy.
According to the hospital doctor in Mumbai, he mistakenly certified the homeless man named only Prakash, as dead after police found him unconscious and suffering from multiple infections on Sunday.
Prakash was sent to the mortuary immediately after being declared dead.
The hospital's rules require patients to remain in the hospital for at least two hours after their time of death in case of an error like what happened to Prakash.
Prakash was found unconscious at a bust stop. he had a metabolic disorder and he was delirious when the police brought him to the hospital.
Police and doctors pointed the finger of blame at each other for the misdiagnosis but were in agreement on Wednesday that the man had succumbed to his infections late on Tuesday.
"Yes, he was died," Ashok Dudhe, Mumbai Police deputy commissioner said.
"As the autopsy was about to begin, the man awoke triggering chaos after which the doctors rushed to the room. Then they snatched the death certificate from my staff and tore it up," Dudhe said.
According to Dr. Suleman Merchant , dean of th hospital, Prakash must have been "lying around for at least six or seven days" prior to being brought in, as he had maggots on his face and in his ears.
"Maggots eat human tissues. Usually dead bodies have maggots," said Dr. Suleman Merchant.
He is now launching an investigation as to why hospital protocol was breached.
A senior doctor at Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital in Mumbai, who asked not be named, said the cause of death would only be known after a post-mortem examination was performed.
According to some reports, it was originally reported how Chief Medical Officer Dr Rohan Rohekar had allegedly told staff to take the body straight to the morgue, opposite to hospital rules which requires corpses to be held in casualty ward for a two-hour 'cooling off' period in case there is a chance of revival.
"It is a serious case of negligence by the doctor. We were shocked to find patient was alive after he had been declared dead," said Senior Police Inspector Yeshudas Gorde.
"We have written to the dean of Sion Hospital, asking him to conduct an inquiry and give us the report."
"Once the report is out, we can take action. The hospital authorities should take action against the person responsible for this incident," he added.
According to the reports, the police have finished an internal inquiry into the incident and a report has been sent to the commissioner's office.
In the other hand, Prakash is reportedly in a stable condition at the hospital's intensive care unit, where he is being treated for a ear infection and malnourished.
