Near Guarda, Portugal you will find the bizarre looking spillway, Covão do Conchos, which is part of the Conchos Dam. It was manmade built in 1955. It has a height of 4.6 meters and a circumference of 48 meters. It is locate on top of Portugal’s highest mountain range, Serra de Estrela.

The 4,984-foot-long tunnel leading to the dam is alone a really impressive display of human engineering but what is more impressing is this stunning creation function. It collects water from Riberia das Naves and diverts it to the Bayou Lagoon Long.

It can sometimes give you the chills, but when you look at it from above, it is nothing but amazing. Because if seen form above you start to image that the hole is a mythical realm or a portal taking you to another dimension!

The 4,984-foot-long tunnel leading to the dam is a seriously impressive display of human engineering, but most people are more impressed with its stunning form than they are with its function.
