Considered extinct in the wild because of poaching, there are only five of the animals left in captivity. The remaining animals, all captive, include a female at the San Diego Zoo, a female in a zoo in the Czech Republic, and two females and a male at Kenya's Ol Pejeta Conservancy, which is part of a last-ditch effort to breed the extremely rare subspecies.

The option of saving the rare species is still on-going. This is by breeding the remaining northern white females in Kenya with southern white rhino males. However, The pure northern white species would be lost. But breeding it will save the genetic material of a pure northern white rhinos in their off-spring.

Will the cross breeding of the northern white female rhino with the southern male rhino will be a success? Please let us know.
