Never text while walking, this teenager learned the "hard way"!

Our mobile phones are one of the things we can’t let go. Even when we are walking we keep on using our mobile phones, that's why this girl had learned the hard way.

A Chinese teenager’s leg was stuck in a storm drain while walking and texting

An unnamed Chinese teenager had been walking down a street in Mianyang City, in the southwest China’s Sichuan Province.

While she was very busy texting her friend on her mobile phone, obviously she wasn’t looking where she was going and when she stepped on a drain her slim leg went straight through the bars leaving her wedged.

They eventually freed her after a 45-minute wait.

We managed to remove the bars and quickly freed her once we arrived at the scene,

said Ming Lai, spokesman of Fire brigade.

Her leg was a bit scratched and bruised and numb from being squeezed through the bars, but she quickly recovered and did not need hospital treatment.

Bystanders tried to help her but it was completely stuck so they called an emergency service

The teenager didn't require hospitalization because she didn’t fracture her bones but she has bruises.

Witness Jun Niu who posted pictures online said:

She was more embarrassed than anything else, she covered her face up with her hands when people were gathered around and it was clear she didn’t want to be there.

She was incredibly thin though, I reckon normally nobody would be able to get their foot down there but the bars were a bit bent so I guess that was why it happened.

He added

There are lots of accidents happening because of our mobile phones.

We are always warned that mobiles phones can be a distractions, for example, drivers should never use their phones while driving it can cause them death or such a very bad accident, people who walk on streets or pedestrian lanes, they can fall on manholes, can be run into by a car without knowing it.

So maybe it's best to just stop on a corner or stay at the side when you have to call or text someone. It can really save your life!
