A 44 year old gorilla finally got her UNEXPECTED baby! It's not even a baby gorilla.
Koko the gorilla has practically become a celebrity for her amazing displays of intelligence and ability to communicate. It's claimed that she knows over 1,000 words in modified version of American Sign Language and understands 2,000 words of spoken English.
But less well known is the fact that she absolutely loves babies despite not having had the opportunity to have any of her own. She often signs the word “baby”, carries gorilla dolls in her arms, and even pretends that her dolls can sign by moving their arms and hands.
In celebration of the ape’s 44th birthday, her trainer Francine Patterson decides to give Koko a box full of kitten. She fell in love with one, and another fell in love with Koko.
The gentle ape has now adopted both Ms. Gray and Ms. Black into her family. Despite her huge hands being the size of the young cats, Koko was gentle with the tiny balls of fluff when they arrived in a cardboard box, carefully flicking a finger out to stroke them.
Koko is shown to be careful and patient with the kittens, allowing the little creature’s time to get to know her and only carefully lifting one up after they had been effectively introduced.
Koko has had several cats as pets over the years, including a gray kitten named All Ball. When All Ball got outside of the cage and was hit by a car just six months later, Koko grieved by using the signs for "cry," "frown," "sad" and "trouble."
The gorilla's relationship with her kitten became the subject of the children's book, "Koko's Kitten."
The foundation wrote that Koko's relationship with her new cats could become a multimedia sequel to "Koko's Kitten."
