Unusual Catch! World’s ugliest shark!
Sharks are considered to be the deadliest creatures in the sea and their looks strike fear in the hearts of marine animals as well as human swimmers. But how would you describe this kind of shark that was recently caught in the waters off the coast of Scotland.
A strange breed of shark has been discovered living off the coast and this shark is said to be the world’s ugliest shark. The false catshark, also known as Psuedotrakias microdon, was captured by marine biologists taking part in a tagging survey of sea creatures close to the Isle of Barra in the Outer Hebrides.
The creature, which resembles a blobfish, lives at depths of between 500 and 1400 m and is rarely seen because it swims so close to the bottom of the ocean.
Its large liver allows it to hang over the bottom of the ocean with little effort. False catsharks and hammerhead sharks are related, they both a member of the ground shark family.

False catshark primarily feed on bony fish, but they also hunt for lantern shark, squid and octopuses. Although this type of shark species is rare, it can be found in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian oceans.
This is the only the second time of a sofa shark was spotted in Scotland. Before they turn it back into the ocean they measured it first, the false catshark approximately 6-feet-long (2 meters) and weighed 9 stone (60 kilograms).
Marine biologist Francis Neat was surprised to catch the shark during a survey on the West of Scotland.
“I was pretty surprised when it landed in our boat. We quickly measured and weighed it before sending it back into the water. We hadn't seen one in 10 years. It's not unique to Scotland but is certainly interesting to look at It's a big and baggy looking creature. It looks a lot like a soft, discarded sofa when it's just lying there,” he said.
