"Mom, please make it stop." An Oklahoma mother watched in horror as the burns her children suffered while playing outside at a daycare developed into blisters that sent them to the hospital.
Her kids have begged her never to take them to day care again after an excursion to a waterpark left them with second- and third-degree burns.
Shaunna Broadway, 26, of Vinita, enrolled her children in Happiness Is a Learning Center, but has now filed a police report after they were taken to a local mini water park and not given sunscreen.
Broadway, a single working mother, took them to a Tulsa hospital but was told around 2am Monday morning that the kids needed to be flown immediately to Shriner's Hospital for Children in Galveston, Texas, because of the severity of the burns.
Broadway said that the day care took the children to a local water park and did not apply sunscreen to her kids. She said she was told by the day care that her children didn't listen to instructions to keep their clothes on.
"I can't explain what it's like to be a mother and have your kids asking you why this happened and [saying,] 'Mom, please make it stop,'" Broadway told KJRH. "Even to the point of begging me not to go back to work because they don't want to ever go back to day care again."
Tray has second-degree sunburns while his brother Conner, who has paler skin and red hair, has third-degree burns.
The family has set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for the boys' medical treatment.
She watched as the burns, sustained Friday, developed into blisters that caused her sons excruciating pain that was not eased with traditional creams.
"No Mother should have to watch her children suffer so much," the page reads. "We want to make sure that her entire focus is on her boys. We don't want her to be burdened financially while she deals with this horror."
The children's grandfather Wayne Broadway said that the burnt skin had been removed from both the boys and that they were now in wraps that were being changed regularly.
Skin grafts have been discussed as a possibility if the condition of the burns does not improve, he said.
