A zoo made an aquarium NOT for fishes but for gigantic Elephants!
It's quite impossible but, yes, it's real! Take a close look to the creature swimming inside the huge aquarium.
Usually, aquariums are used for housing fishes and other aquatic animals, however, this zoo made a twist and made a gigantic aquarium all for elephants. It is really rare to see these types of animals to swim underwater but Swiss zoo, the Zurich Zoo's Kaeng Krachan made it all possible.
It was made with six water basins, an area of 11,000 square meters, and a huge glass wall so that the elephants will be visible to the visitors are they swim through the aquarium. The glass wall was made to take the weight of the elephant sized occupants.
The Zurich Zoo took its name from the Kaeng Krachan national elephant park in Thailand where they made link through to show their support for a project that protects Asian elephants.
The zoo made places where the elephants can socialise, where the keepers are not allowed to go and they also covered and open areas with different vegetation.
According to Martin Naville, if Paris has the Eiffel Tower and Rome has the Colosseum, Zurich not has its very own elephant park.
Zoo director Alex Ruebel said that the 50 million GBP facility is made and designed to more closely resembled the natural environment for the elephants conditions. He also said that the elephants have a family and social life and that they can look for food from all the 40 distributions points. He explained that they don't want their animals to be eaten by others but they can use their natural skills to find themselves food and look out for the other animals.
The zoo also reported that they are expecting anther third calf from one of the female elephant while there will be an additional male elephant. This goes to show that the herd in the Zurich Zoo is about to be bigger and better!
