The Black Rapunzel has a lock on a world record that other people may dread - the world's longest dreadlocks.

Asha Mandela flaunting her 55 ft long dreadlocks

The 50 year old hair fanatic, Asha Mandela, made her hair grow to a whooping 55 feet which is longer than a London bus. To this, she earned the title for the World's Longest Dreadlocks and the name Black Rapunzel since 2008.

But greatness like this isn't easy. Her hair weights as same as the weight of a reception-age child. While she needed six bottles of shampoo when she washes her hair. And drying her hair takes almost two days!

25 years ago, after Asha Mandela moved to New York, she decided to have a more natural hairstyle by growing her lovely locks. 

She said that it was more of a spiritual journey for her when she first started doing it. She also said that it was not anything to do with fad or style in fashion. According to her, after 25 years of growing her hair, it has become part of her and if she ever cut it she would be really taking away her life.

Doctors have noticed that Asha Mandela is starting to develop a curvature on her spine. They also said that her neck could collapse so she needed to be extra careful.

Despite the warning of the doctors that the hair's weight could fracture her spine and probably paralyze her, Asha Mandela still wants to take the growth of her hair to the next level! She claims that her hair helped her overcome two strokes, two heart attacks and cancer. 

Asha, who was married three times, admitted that hair doesn't affect her love life. She said that it has never caused a problem and it adds a little spice.

One of Asha Mandela's fear was that someone who as a hair fetish might cut her hair when she is not looking. But how could some one resist something that tempting!
