This happens to the monster grouper and a shark what was captured by a diver during one of their diving sessions.

A goliath grouper is one of the largest saltwater fish from the grouper family which can be found in most shallow tropical waters. They live along the corals and artificial reefs where can be found 5 to 50 meters deep. They can be found in the coast of Florida, Caribbean and in Brazil. In some rare occasions they can be found in New England in Massachusetts. Also, they can be spotted in Congo to Senegal.

This critically endangered species can grow as long as 2.5 meters and can weigh as heavy as 360 kilos. The heaviest grouper that was caught was 309 kilos in Fernandina Beach in Florida. They are vulnerable to mass harvesting because they are considered as fine food quality for fisherman. They are fearless in nature which is an easy prey for fishermen. In 2015, the first goliath grouper was successfully bred in captivity.

This grouper eats crustaceans, other fish, octopus, young sea turtles, sharks and barracudas. They are also known to attack divers and have been seen attacking large lemon sharks. There are also different parasites living on the groupers body. These are monogenea and diplectanidae.

This species was also called jewfish however they stopped using this term in 2001 because it was “culturally insensitive”.

A wobbegong shark, which is also called as carpet sharks, can be found in shallow tropical waters in the Pacific and Indian ocean. The term Wobbegong came from an Australian Aboriginal language which means “shaggy beard”. This refers to the growths around the mouth of the shark. This species can grow up to 1.3 meters long. The largest wobbegong spotted was around 3 meters.

There are some incidents of human that was bitten by a wobbegong sharks. However, this species is not a treat to humans. When provoked, they may attack a scuba divers, surfers and snorkellers who are spotted near their hiding place. They have small sharp teeth that can destroy a wetsuit. Also, they are very hard to remove once bitten.

In the video below, you can see that the monster grouper attacks a carpet shark. The video was captured by a diver. The grouper says for a while in the same place after attacking and eating the shark. After a few minutes, the grouper swim away from the scene where the shark is still inside it mouth.
