Last December 6, 2014, a miracle baby was born fully inside the amniotic sac at 26 weeks premature via C- section. The doctors, nurses and even the mothers who saw him still intact was left speechless. They are all amazed in what they just witness.

Silas Phillips, which they called 'medical miracle' was born at the Maxine Dunitz Children's Health Center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Silas. He was was still inside the fluid bag when he was delivered 10 weeks go. Doctors called the birth a medical rarity.

According to reports, this type of rare incident happens to 1 in 80,000 unborn babies. Silas was still getting oxygen through that placenta at the time someone captured that incredible photo.

“It was a moment that really did, even though its a cliche: we caught our breath. It really felt like a moment of awe,” said William Binder, a neonatologist, who delivered the infant at the West Hollywood hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, part of the Maxine Dunitz Children's Health Center.

"It was a moment that really did — even though it's a cliché — we caught our breath. “This was really a moment that will stick in my memory for some time," he added.
The doctor needs to cut out the sac and helped him with his first breaths. In a normal pregnancy, the sac should have broke before the birth in a process we commonly call the 'waters breaking' and contained both the placenta and the umbilical cord. The amniotic sac is a bag of clear, pale fluid inside the womb where the unborn baby develops and grows.

The mother of the baby boy was unaware of what happened to his baby until Dr. Binder showed her the photos he captured.

"It was definitely like a clear film where you could definitely make out his head and his hair. He was kind of in a fetal position and you could see like his arms and his legs curled up," said Chelsea Phillips

"It was actually really cool to see. And when I heard that was actually really rare I was like "oh my gosh you're a special little baby"," she added with excitement

Being born 'en caul' is the term used when the child is born within an intact amniotic sac, which occurred in the story above. It is also known as a 'veiled birth'. Most en caul births occur in premature babies.

The amniotic sac is a bag of fluid inside a woman's womb (uterus) where the unborn baby develops and grows. It's sometimes called the 'membranes', because the sac is made of two membranes called the amnion and the chorion. Amniotic fluid.
