You'll never believe what this grieving dog did when her puppy died!
A tear-jerking video shows tragic moment of a dog burying her dead puppy in a pile of soil.
The dog, which was filmed by her surprised owner, was believed to be a Chihuahua mix. According to Daily Mail, the dog was seen digging a grave for her tiny puppy in a place which seems to be the owner’s backyard.
Also, in the footage, the depressed dog was caught picking her puppy from a heap of leaves using her mouth.
The dog then made its way towards an remote area of the backyard which is enclosed by a white fence. The dog cautiously digs a hole byy using her two front legs.
This incident of canine burial can be considered as unique. Also, they do this not for the same reason why people bury their loved ones. The reason that lies under it is somewhat gruesome.
According to New York Magazine, the reason why dogs and a lot of other animals instinctively dig a grave for them to bury the meat and bones so they will able to eat it later.
Peter Borchelt, New York animal behavior specialist who has consulted for the Museum of Natural History, said that this is a classic case of a surely interesting behavior. Kind of un usual because someone actually caught it on video. He suspects that it was more likely just caching dead meat, rather than soulful response to the demise of a puppy that the dog wanted to bury.
He also claimed that when we humans saw the video we will be thinking that the dog is burying her puppy like we bury people. But they are two entirely different behavior systems.
However, Borchelt also explained that he would not go so far to say that the dog is actually saving the puppy for him to eat later because that might not be the issue. Still, it might have something to do with the dog’s need. He quoted, “Here’s meat, here’s bone – I’ll bury it.”
