Jacyln Jose won the best actress at Cannes and her speech was just priceless!

Every actors and actresses' dreams was to be able to show their talent not only here on in the Philippines but Internationally. And just today, one of Philippines' best 'kontrabida' actress Jaclyn Jose won the best actress award at Cannes! And her speech was so cute and priceless.

It's not the first time that Philippines got the chance to join the Cannes Film Festival. One of the great director Brillante Mendoza had shown his best works on Cannes over the past years. But the 69th Cannes Film Festival was one of the most memorable for him because finally, one of our actress Jaclyn Jose won the best actress award.

Jaclyn won for her role as a mother who's a sweetshop owner and a drug dealer in Brillante Mendoza's entry 'Ma Rosa'.

According to Jaclyn, during the awards night she didn't expect to receive an award and she was just praising the whole event on how good it is and why Philippines can't hold that kind ov event. When suddenly she heard her name being called on the stage, it was that time she won the Best Actress award!

All the Filipinos who were at the event were all surprised, happy and emotional just what Jaclyn was feeling that moment. She went on the stage with her daughter Andi Eigenman and the director Brillante Mendoza.

"I’m at a loss for words! I am so surprised and moved. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all the Jury members. I thank the director Brillante Mendoza, whose instructions I simply followed," Jaclyn said on her acceptance speech

"He’s a brilliant director, a genius. I am so happy you liked the film. I’d like to salute the Philippine people," she added.

According to Jaclyn, she had to forget everything she learned from her 30 years in the business for her role in 'Ma Rosa'.

Jaclyn also appeared in Mendoza's first movie "The Masseur" 11 years ago and also his drama "Serbis",
which competed in Cannes in 2008

"The biggest challenge for me was not to act. Especially since I am coming from television shows where I play loud and campy characters," she said.

Aside from Jose, "Ma' Rosa" also stars Julio Diaz, Andi Eigenmann, Felix Roco, and Jomari Angeles.

The film was about a poor Manila neighborhood stall holder who sells drugs on the side with her husband to make ends meet.

The couple gets arrested, leaving their four children to try and buy their parents' freedom from corrupt policemen.

Jaclyn was the first Filipino to ever win an award at Cannes and she dedicated it to her fellow Filipinos!
