A teenager has caused controversy online after posting a video of himself swimmingwith an endangered whale shark .

Cody Garland was fishing with a group of friends off the coast of Destin, Florida, when he spotted the massive sea creature and decided to jump in the water alongside it.

He claims that he was enticed to jump in the water, in a short interview with WEAR News.

It is unclear whether the teenager will face any legal action for swimming with the whale shark.

Whale sharks are listed as a vulnerable after being over exploited and are highly valued on international markets, according to the WWF.
