An investigation has been launched but it is being claimed that the victim violated operator regulations by not correctly shutting down the equipment
A cleaner has been horrifically injured when an escalator crushed his foot and led to his lower leg being amputated.
The 35-year-old was trapped while cleaning the moving stairs at the Cloud Nine shopping mall in Shanghai.
This is the third serious escalator-related accident in China in a week and was caught on CCTV.
The horrific CCTV footage shows the 35-year-old man stepping over the top platform of the Shanghai shopping mall escalator when his leg accidentally becomes wedged in a gap on the steps.
Mr Zhang can be seen cleaning the equipment when the metal panels give way trapping his lower left leg.
The escalator maintenance company are investigating the accident, with initial investigations suggesting it resulted from 'improper operation of the escalator.'
Devastated family members of the man told reporters he had only begun working at the supermarket three months ago.
Aside from that, a one-year-old toddler was dragged into one of the moving staircases when he tripped and fell, causing his left arm to be wedged into a gap on the machine.
When the child was finally freed from the machinery, his left arm appeared to be fractured, with reports suggesting he may face amputation.

The doctor said in order to prevent (the) situation from getting worse, they amputated his left calf,a family member of the victim told state media Xinhua.
