Do you still remember the chameleon from the Disney movie Tangled? This chameleon can change it colors depending on its mood or when this lizard is in jeopardy.

They are a very peculiar and highly specialized group of old world lizards. They have at least 202 different species from the research conducted last Jun 2015. They come in different colours and some of them can change their colors. They have a zygodactylous feet. They have a very long tongues. Some of the specieis have a prehensile tail. Their eyes are independent to one another which helps them to pin-point their prey. They usually adapt themself by climbing and hunting. Most of them are found in a humid habitants from rain forest to desert. They can be found in countries like Africa, southern Europe and Souther Asia. They have been a household pets in Hawaii, California and Florida.

Some chameleon can change their skin coloration that varies from pink, blue, red, orange, green, black, brown, light blue, yellow and purple. They have a superficial layer that contains the pigments and a layer of cells that contains guanine crystals. This crystals help them change depending on the wave length of the light that bounces back by the crystals.

Chameleons show a darker colors when they are angered or attempts to scare to intimidate other species. For male chameleons, they show a lighter or multicolored patterns when they are courting their counterparts.

The Smith’s dwarf chameleon adjusts their colors depending on the vision of the their predators, like birds and shakes, when they are making threats.

For desert chameleon, they uses their color change to help them adjust with the temperature. They became black during cold mornings. This helps them absorb the heat more effectively. They change their color to gray to reflect the light during the peak of the day.

In the video below, a helpless chameleon was attacked by a ruthless snake. The snake tries to make a move while the chameleon was standing still. After a split seconds, the snake grabs the chameleon and makes it a breakfast for the day.
