The teenager, named Rustam, had a broken leg and he had to stay at home to recover. To kill time and boredom, he decided to play DOTA.

Rustam had been staying home since August 8, the boy obviously had limited adult supervision, as the parents were not aware of their son’s addiction.

His only break was when he needs to eat or take a nap. That was his daily routine for 22 days.

While his parents were away, he incessantly played online computer games, wrenching himself away from the screen only to sleep,
Svetlana Abramova, a senior aide at the regional Investigative Committee said.

Rustam had been playing DOTA for roughly six to seven hours for 22 days.

According to his parents, they usually heard him pounding and clicking on the keyboard.

One night last August 30, his mother didn't heard any clicking of keyboard. She went to Rustam's room to check on him. She found Rustam unconscious, he was rushed to the hospital but declared dead on arrival.

Doctors reportedly suspected that Rustam died due to deep vein thrombosis.

That's when a blood clot forms in a deep vein, usually in a leg. Sitting day in and day out causes DVT which is essentially a blood clot, once the clot goes mobile (this is the secondary condition) it can be deadly. The blood clot can break loose and cause death.

It is important to follow what your kids are doing. In the case of the 17-year-old, it is suspected he spent what was the equivalent of 83 whole days online out of the past year-and-a-half. A dependence on computer games is one of biggest dangers for the kids nowadays,
said Pavel Astakhov, a Russian representative for children.

Parents, always check on your kids. Not because they are at home they are already safe.
