This teenage girl marries a stray dog. You won’t believe the reason!
This was the craziest wedding ever!
Mangli Munda, 18-year-old from eastern Indian state of Jharkhand, married a stray dog as part of a tribal ritual designed to ward off an evil spell.
According to some reports, the local elders threw a bizarre wedding because a local guru convinced the teenager’s parents she was under an evil spell and that marrying a man would only bring destruction to the family and the community.
It was a luxurious Indian wedding with at least 70 guests.
They believed that the teenager possessed ill-luck and that marrying a man will just bring destruction to their family and the community.
"The village elders told us that we should organize the wedding as soon as we can," said Sri Amnmunda, Mangli’s father. "We had to make sure that the evil spell is destroyed, and marrying a dog is the only way to get rid of the bad luck. Many weddings like this have taken place in our village and also the other neighboring villages. This is a custom that we thoroughly believe in."
Sheru, the stray dog that was found by Mangli’s father was brought to the wedding in a chauffeur driven car.
Mangli said she was not happy to be married with a dog, but she insisted that will help changer her fortunes and her community as well.
“I am marrying a dog because the village elders believe that my evil spell will be passed on to the dog. After that is done, the man I will marry will have a long life,” the bride said.
Mangil’s father agreed with the local elders. He said: “The village elders told us that we should organize the wedding as soon as we can. We had to make sure that the evil spell is destroyed.”
According to the village's customs, the marriage will not affect Mangli's life, and she will be free to marry again later without divorcing the dog.
“My villagers say that many girls like me have followed this ritual and they have gotten rid of their evil spells and are living happy lives now,” said Mangli.
After the wedding ceremony, Mangli has to take care of Sheru the stray dog and raise him as her pet.
And so Mangli could find the man of her dreams.
“I will marry a man one day. It is the dream of every girl to marry a prince charming. So I am also waiting for my prince,” Mangli added.
