Meet the 11-year-old girl who is allergic to sunlight
Most of us really enjoys being under the sun but a 11 year old girl could die if the sunlight touches her skin!
Bubbly girl Savannah Fulkerson was just like an other ordinary kid until she was 4 years old. Her life changed when she turned four. Savannah starts screaming and crying complaining that her skin feels like burning when they arrived at an outdoor recreational venue.
For several years Andrea Fulkerson, Savannah's mother, took her to various pediatricians and other specialists hoping to find the cause of her daughters illness. Andrea was told by doctors that Savannah has eczema.
However, it was after five years of tests and questions that the family was able to get help from Children's Hospital at Los Angeles. Here, Savannah was diagnosed with Erythropoietic Protoporphyria or EPP, a rare genetic condition.
A component of blood cells is affected by genetic condition which can lead to toxic compounds called protoporphyrin being released. These can make the human extremely sensitive to sunlight.
A person suffering from this condition will experience swelling, redness of the skin and burning sensation if under the sun. This is according to American Porphyria Foundation.
With an optimistic point of view, Andrea Fulkerson said it was still a relief to finally have Savannah's diagnosis even though there is no cure approved. She said that now, she can protect her daughter from the sun.
Savannah is now 11 years old and is participating in a cheer leading squad and gymnastics as long as she practices indoor.

We'd be outside about 20 minutes or so ... she'd say, "I burn!"recalled Savannah's mother Andrea Fulkerson.

I wish they would find a cure, because I don't like living with this. It's really hard,Savannah Fulkerson told KABC-TV.
