Miss Universe 2015 host messed up and announced the wrong winner!
Philippines' representative Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach bested 79 other candidates to get the crown. Early fan favorite Wurtzbach also garnered the top global fan vote.
Before the announcement, host Steve Harvey made a mistake in the announcement after crowning and calling Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutiérrez as winner of the Miss Universe pageant and Philippines as first runner up.
The host even showed the result card from to the audience to admit and took responsibility of the terrible mistake. Wurtzbach was indeed in shock while already comfortably standing beside third placer Olivia Jordan.
Wurtzbach already thought she lost the crown to Colombia, which would have won back to back, until the host came forward to apologize. Even the Paulina Vega, Miss Universe 2014, went back onstage to correct the results, but the telecast ended before she could do so.
Before the announcing the winners again, singer Seal performed while the top three candidates took their one last walk in the Planet Hollywood stage. Then, Paulina Vega of Colombia transferred the crown to the Cagayan de Oro beauty. That marks the third time that the Philippines won the prestigious beauty title.
Many were dismayed with the host Steve Harvey. Hate posts and tweets flooded social networking sites. They are ranting why commit such mistake in a prestigious event where he's just going to read what was written in the card.
However, along side with it all the bashing, are endless support and comfort from internet users all around the world. They believe that it was natural to commit mistake and it was good of Steve Harvey to take responsibility of it.
But for all the supporters of Miss Philippines, it may not be the most graceful win, what was important is she won the crown!
This is the third time that Philippines' won Miss Universe crown, after Gloria Diaz won it in 1969 and Maria Margarita "Margie" Moran in 1973.
