World's first "heart-shaped" watermelon successfully created by Japanese farmer
Japan's square shaped watermelons are out. Make way for heart their heart shaped watermelons!
Kumamoto Prefecture farmer, Hiroichi Kimura has finally accomplished it after years of research. Shaping the originally round fruits into the famous symbol of love is not an easy task. And he successfully did something whom no one else has ever attempted.
Originally, Mr. Kimura grew the standard round watermelons. Then one day, a neighbor said that seeing a heart shaped watermelon would be very interesting. This ignited Mr. Kimura's curiosity. And in that moment on, he started researching on how to make a watermelon in the shape of a heart.
Mr. Kimura researched daily and has experienced a lot of trial and errors. He read different books and pamphlets about the growing techniques. He made and developed his own heart-shaped mold. He also researched about soil conditions, ideal cultivation method, atmospheric temperature, and moisture levels for the heart shaped watermelon.
It was indeed, a long process.
Mr. Kimura never wanted to give up despite all the failures and efforts wasted. He was never discouraged but was even more eager to continue in challenging himself, year after year.
Later on, he finally succeeded and it tasted better than what he imagined. Once you've eaten the red flesh, you will be left with the mellow sweetness that will linger on your tongue. This is because of the crunchy consistency of the watermelon that results to the pleasant sweet juices.
What driven Mr. Kimura to do it was simple yet truly heartwarming. According to him, he wants his customers to eat something delicious.
This Japanese farmer's love and dedication is very impressive. It was simply, a labor of love. Because even after he managed to cultivate the heart shaped watermelon, he still continues to research and develop new and delicious varieties of watermelon.
