Aretha Louise Franklin is an American singer and musician. She was born on March 25, 1942, in Memphis, Tennessee, USA. She started as a gospel singer for her father, who is a church minister. At the age of 18, she her singing career when she recorded her first single with Columbia Records in 1967. Then she transferred to Atlantic Records where she first recorded her hit singles Respect, (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman and Think.This helps her become The Queen of Soul by the end of 1960s.
On her entire career, she recorded 112 singles that were included on the Billboard Top 100. A sad event happens to her when her father was shot in 1979 which triggers her to leave Atlantic and signed with Arista Record. She also won international recognition from Nessun Dorma, which is the equivalent of Grammys that time, in 1998. She also won 18 Grammy Awards includign the best-selling artists of all time. Her single where sold over 75 million records worldwide. She was the first female performer to be inducted at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. She was inducted to the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005. In 2012, she was also inducted to the GMA Gospel Music Hall of Fame. She was included in the Rolling Stone magazine twice, this includes 1000 Greatest Artists of All Time and 100 Greatest Singers of All Time.
Her latest performance was at the Kennedy Center Honors in 2015. One of the audience is President Obama who almost cried when She sang the song “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman”.
