Meet the SNAKE BOY who sheds his skin every 41 days eversince he was born!
This young boy has a rare skin condition where he sheds his skin just like what snakes do.
For 41 days, an Indonesian teenager named Ari Wibowo sheds his skin like a snake and must continuously daub his body with moisturizer and soak his body in water, night and day, to stop it hardening and seizing up.
Doctors in Indonesia were not able, and some unwilling, to treat Ari Wibowo which has lead him to have an unusual appearance.
The rare condition he suffers from is called, Erythroderma which is an inflammatory skin disease also known as 'red man syndrome'. This disease causes the skin of almost the entire body to become scaly and flake off.
35 years old photographer, Nurcholis Anhari Lubis, was able to document the teenage boy’s condition. He describes the situation as ‘scaly like a snake about to shed his skin.
According to Nurcholis Anhari Lubis, the doctors at the same hospital where Ari was born told the them that they do not have the enough resources to treat the disease. What’s worse is that they asked the family to take the infant away.
Despite everything, the boy still tried to live a normal live in his village. He takes up lessons, however, he was forced to study all by himself because of the ignorance of the community towards his condition.
To this, he also has to bear prejudice because of superstitions in his village.
Nurcholis Anhari Lubis said that many people have blamed Ari’s condition on a superstition that if a woman will treat animals badly while she is baring a child, it will have an effect on the unborn baby.
While some locals believe that Ari’s mother tortured a lizard while she was still pregnant with Ari.
To this, Ari has trouble talking to other people, also, his right eye is impaired while the other must always be kept moist by using drops.
