500-year-old mummy of a Frozen Girl still looks alive
The truth about this Inca girl who was frozen for almost 500 years was finally revealed! Another mystery to solve.
This Inca girl was found in 1999 near Llullaillaco's 6739 meter summit. She was found perfectly preserved by an Argentine-Peruvian expedition and nicknamed "La doncella" means "The maiden".
According to experts, this girl was only 15 years old when she died. Inca people said she was chosen to go to live with the gods. But the truth is that she was a sacrifice to the Inca Gods and had been killed for the religion.
According to the scientists, her organs are intact and as if he had just died just a few weeks ago. They had tested her hair and found out what kind of diet she had into before she died.
They said that Inca fattened their children before killing them.
Once sacrificed, the freezing temperatures, among other factors, naturally preserved their fattened bodies.
Many Inca children were offered as sacrifice during or after important events, such as the death of the Sapa Inca(who was the emperor) or during a famine. These sacrifices were known as capacocha.
It was believed that she was drugged and left to die into the mountains. Upon reaching the burial site, the children were given an intoxicating drink to minimize pain, fear, and resistance, then killed them either by strangulation, a blow to their head or by leaving them to lose consciousness in the extreme cold and die of exposure.
Scientist also found out that the Inca girl had a Lung Infection. After taking an X-ray of the "Maiden's" lungs they turned to DNA analysis and discovered a bacteria Mycobacterium, also known to cause upper respiratory tract infections and tuberculosis (TB).
They are still testing and discovering more about this Inca culture and what really the reason behind this freezing ritual is.
