A Turkish man was revived and brought to life but lost almost half of his memory.
Despite its success, the procedure left the patient with severe memory loss. He woke up believing he was 20 years old. He lost almost half of his memory and could no longer recall his wife and children.
His wife Sibel Sonmez, 39, told local media: "It was like a movie, I didn't know how to explain the two children we had waiting at home.
"I tried to resolve it by showing him photographs, but it took a very long time to be able to convince him."
Dr. Zuhtu said the ice bath, which is known as cryotherapy in medicine, is such a rare treatment that only 19 patients so far have been brought back to life using it.
In Ankara, Turkey the 41 year old Bulent Sonmez was declared dead after he suddenly collapsed and suffered a massive heart attack. Doctors quickly attended Sonmez but they failed and his heart stopped beating.
The doctors attempted to resuscitate him by putting his body in an ice bath. It is the controversial regiment popular among athletes but is considered dangerous because it lack the sufficient evidence regarding its effect and usefulness.
The hypothermia treatment lowered Sonmenz’s body temperature ti 30 degrees Celsius. It will limit the effect of lack of oxygen to the organs.
The doctors restarted his heart. They have brought Sonmez back to life and they spent another 24 hours to maintain his heart rate and return his body temperature to normal.
