What is a pregnancy test? Can a man take this test? Are the results conclusive? Do man needs to take this exam?
A pregnancy test helps you determine if you are pregnant or not. This test uses human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) which was discovered during the 1930’s. This hCG was produced by syncytiotrophoblast cells of the fertilised ova (egg).
Enough with the terminology, here is the real talk. A man discovered that he has cancer after peeing on a pregnancy test.
Byron Geldard, 19, arrived home from a holiday in Kavos. When he discovered that there is something painful in his private parts. The doctor asked him to take an ultrasound and found a mass on his abdomen.
Before the previous doctor told him that the pain that he experiencing is just contributing to his workout. Later, they found out that it was a cancer that was spreading to his lungs. The doctor doesn’t know which type of cancer it is.
Then the doctor asked him for a pregnancy test, because the same hormone to detect if a girl is pregnant is the same hormone that can detect testicular cancer. This is weird because we all know that the pregnancy test is just to detect if the girl is pregnant or not.
For the case of Byron, the pregnancy test returns positive and the doctor told them that he has a stage four testicular cancer. The cancer did spread to his abdomen and lungs. After the result, he went undergo a chemotherapy the next day. After the tumor shrunk, he went for a surgery to remove the tumor in his abdomen. After the surgery, the doctor gives a Byron a go signal that he is cancer free.
