Elephants don’t like motorbikes and one rider in Thailand learnt this the hard way.

A man riding a motorbike through a Thai national park had a close shave after bumping into a large group of elephants. The animals, likely reacting to the bike’s noise, went on the offensive.

As the moped rider attempted to pass the group of elephant, one elephant charged him and began trumpeting. Seconds later, at least five more elephants, including two babies, joined in with a noisy chorus of intimidation as they stood around the vehicle and its rider.

The unidentified man wearing a helmet was forced to leap off his bike and dash into the jungle after being pursued by the angry elephant.

Just when it looked as if the trumpeting elephants were about to charge him, the man begin begging and praying that the animals leave him and his bike alone by the side of the road.

It miraculously worked and the elephants soon separate. When the elephants calm down the biker picks up his motorbike and walks away. Fortunately, the biker was not hurt and his bike damaged.

But the lesson is clear, the gentle giants don’t like being disturbed and motorbikes in national parks should certainly be a no-no.

The dramatic footage was captured from a nearby car's dashboard camera. Considering the footage is frightening it is hardly surprising that the video has gone viral on social media garnering close to a million views in just two days.

Khou Yai is the third largest park in Thailand. It covers an area of 300 square kilometers, including evergreen forests and grasslands. In January, an elephant crushed a car.

Several other encounters between motorists and elephants prompted one expert to call for a change of route for tourists to avoid future encounters.

Officials at the Khao Yai national park are calling for a ban on noisy motorbikes after an angry group attacked another biker. Khou Yai is the third largest park in Thailand.
