It is a lizard or a snake? |
The Mexican mole lizard (Bipes biporus), usually known as the five-toed worm lizard, or simply as Bipes, is a species of amphisbaenian, which is endemic to the Baja California Peninsula in Mexico. It is one of four species of amphisbaenians that have legs. It should not be confused with the axolotl, a salamander (Ambystoma mexicanum), which is usually called ajolote in Spanish.
They are pink, reptile like reptiles, 18–24 cm (7.1–9.4 in) nose-to-vent length and 6–7 mm (0.24–0.28 in) in width, that live for one to two years. Their skin is firmly divided to give a ridged appearance, and like night crawlers, their underground movement is by peristalsis of the sections. The forelegs are solid and oar like, while the hindlegs have vanished, abandoning just minimal bones unmistakable
This species is oviparous and the females lay one to four eggs in July. The species only breeds underground. The eggs hatch after two months.
The Mexican Mole lizard (B. biporus) can be found in the states of Baja California, Baja California Sur, Guerrero and Chiapas, in Mexico.
It is a go-getter meat eater and eats ants, termites, ground-abiding creepy crawlies, hatchlings, worms, and little creatures including lizards. It for the most part pulls its prey down to the ground to begin its meal.
Like all different amphisbaenians, this tunneling species just surfaces around evening time or after substantial downpour of rain. Sometimes, they can be found under the stones, heaps of leaves and other concealing spots. At the point when seeing something that may be a treat, as for instance people, they as a rule respond immediately by moving into a close-by tunnel.
What can you say about this strange snake-like lizard? Some of the hobbyist considered this as a pet and tries to breed it on captivity.
