Unexpected reaction of a Dumbo Octopus will surely make you say "Aww"!
As the team of Nautilus where diving off the central California coast, they came across this Dumbo Octopus lingering on the sea floor.. then it did something totally adorable!
Nautilus live explore and discover amazing things in the ocean with Dr. Rober Ballard and the Corps of Exploration.
In one of their episode’s highlights from the California Pacific Coast, also seen in the video posted by EVNautilus on YouTube, there is a close picture of the underwater view where a jellyfish and a what seems to be baby shark floating and swimming above the sea floor. But what got everyone’s attention is the Dumbo Octopus, they even had the camera zoomed towards it.
As they were talking about the cute sea creature, it started to flap its ears. The similarity of the ear-like fins protruding from the top of the mantle of the Dumbo Octopus to the ears of the Disney character, Dumbo, the Flying elephant, which led to the common name, Dumbo.
Then just a few moments later, it hid itself using its adorable little tentacles. One of the speakers thought he was shy but afterwards it was made clear that it was because of the bright light of the camera.
Grimpoteuthis spp, also known as Dumpo Octopus, are identified as the deepest living of all octopus species.
Because these octopuses are neutrally buoyant, they have quite a lot of observed types of mobility. Flapping their Dumbo ear-like fins gets them moving with unusual grace and ease.
Expanding and contracting the webbing amid their tentacles or by shooting water through their funnel will cause a sudden thrust which is helpful for escaping a predator. Any of these processes for movement can be used separately or at all the same time.
