Google is building its own version of a taxi, private car service. Will Uber get scared?

Prepare for the private car service wars

This week a news that hits the world where Google is building its own chauffeur service which will compete with Uber. The catch is that there is no driver or a chauffeur who will gets you to your destination. Google has it all, map service, a stable mobile app ecosystem, an in-app payment system and a self-driving car technology. CEO Larry Page said that he is personally fascinated by the challenges in making the cities operates more efficiently. The company said that driverless technology will be use within two to five years.

For Uber, they are building their autonomous cars by partnering with Carnegie Mellon University. According on Uber’s blog site, the company stated that “The center will focus on the development of key long-term technologies that advance Uber’s mission of bringing safe, reliable transportation to everyone, everywhere.”

Uber CEO Travis Kalanick expressed his fascination with driverless technology. In addition, it will cut down cost to the customer because they don’t need to pay the driver.

Google is one of Uber’s major investor and they invested $258 million last August 2013 thru the Google’s Ventures. It was the largest investment done by Google.
