Freak accident kills a Chinese woman, she was "gobbled" by an escalator!

A Chinese woman was killed by a broken platform after getting of an escalator in a shopping center in Jingzhou, in Hubei province, China.

Freak accident kills a woman, child was saved.

Based on the CCTV footage, the incident shows a metal panel collapsed that cause the woman and her child to loose balance.

According to local media, they identified the victim’s as Xiang Liujuan, 30 years old. She saved her toddler by pushing her to safety before falling in.

The employees were standing at the end of the escalator tries to help the woman by pulling her up to safety. Unfortunately, they were able to save her which pulls the woman inside the escalator system.

This accident sparked fury over the Chinese social media, were many Chinese demands answers from the management of the shopping center. As of writing, it attracts more that 25 million views.

Some of the netizens asked the following questions,  

"Where were the screws to secure the panel? If the screws had been removed why didn't they shut down the escalator? What brand was that escalator?"

Some of them expresses their deepest feeling regarding the event, 

"This is heartbreaking!”, "Why didn't store employees cordon off or shut down the escalator? The department store definitely bears responsibility for this."

Some of them pay tribute to the mother that the only thing on her mind is to save her child. 

"When I saw her fall in I felt awful - but at the same time I felt how strong a mother's love can be - during such a sudden event, the mother's first reaction was still to push the child away from the gap"
