Scuba Diver caught in a strong deadly underwater current

The ocean is an amazing place filled with wonders and beautiful creatures. Is it any wonder why we continue to explore this magnificent place?

But sometimes, the ocean can be one scary bitch. And scuba diver John Hoover found that out the hard way while exploring Maui's Nakalele Point.

Hoover was casually doing his thing when he got sucked into an underwater abyss. It's like the ocean was hungry that day and decided that Hoover was a good snack.

John Hoover is an author, underwater photographer, and professional diver, but that doesn't mean he's immune to the overwhelming power of the ocean. In this clip, you can watch him be bodily sucked into a churning vortex of powerful currents while diving off the coast of Maui, Hawaii.

It will make you afraid to ever go into the water again, which is a good thing. There's much to fear in there.

The horror starts around 2:36. The diver was uninjured, he surfaced around 50 yards north after about 4 minutes. One hell of a ride!

Thankfully, Hoover was fine after this incident. He surfaced 50 yards away only minutes later. Sometimes, the sea is merciful. But it only does that to keep us guessing.

This video is actually a few years old, but it's gone viral all over again in the past week, because it's so fascinatingly terrifying. We felt compelled to share it, because everyone should think about death sometimes. Happy summer!

According to the United States Lifesaving Association, rip tides kill more than 100 people every year. Yeah, that's right. More people die because of rip tides than being attacked by a Great White shark. And here we are more scared of those magnificent creatures.

It's a great reminder that the Earth is Mother Nature's world, we just live in it.
