On August 30, in Dashu village, on the outskirts of Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei, Shu Mansheng sets up a propeller on the motorcycle engine of his self-designed and made flying machine prior to the first test flight in front of his house.

The round steel flying machine, which charges more than 20,000 Yuan, is the fifth model made by Shu, a junior middle school graduate.

It measures around 5.5 meters (18 feet) in diameter, and is powered by eight motorcycle engines. Shu managed to fly for about 10 seconds at 1 metre (3.3 feet) above the ground.

Shu Mansheng's project is a structure powered by eight motorcycle engines mounted vertically. They drive individual fixed-pitch wooden propellers.

The engines are formed in an inner and outer cluster of four engines respectively. The open cockpit placed at the center supports the engines. It is mounted above the spokes and is extended to an outer circular ring.

Shu Mansheng built his first ever aircraft way back in October 2010. It was saved by an insufficient power plant that was unsuccessful to be lift off the ground. Then, the second attempt was terminated when the innovator determined it wouldn’t fly because it was too heavy.

However, Shu was able to built another aircraft for only a span of 15 days. He managed to fly his invention over approximately 30 meters at an altitude less than seven meters above the ground before he crashed.

Shu Mansheng has been able to focus on his aviation exploits after some advances in his career led him to a financial windfall. He now works full-time on his aviation adventures after retiring from his day job.

His latest plan has consumed the equivalent of nearly $10,000and his dream is to create a school where kids can learn things not taught in regular school.
